Answered by answersmine AT 19/08/2019 - 05:52 PM

I disagree. I would say that the thing that is not a legacy of Ancient Greece is monotheism, because the ancient Greece was a polytheistic country, meaning they believed in many gods such as Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, etc.
Their legacy does include advancements in geometry and physics, symmetry and balance in architecture, and direct democracy.

Fellow citizens, pardon me, and allow me to ask, why am I called upon to speak here today? What have I or those I represent to do with your national independence? Are the great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of Independence, extended to us? And am I, therefore, called upon to bring our humble offering to the national altar, and to confess the benefits, and express devout gratitude for the blessings resulting from your independence to us? Would to God, both for your sakes and ours, that an affirmative answer could be truthfully returned to these questions. Then would my task be light, and my burden easy and delightful. For who is there so cold that a nation's sympathy could not warm him? Who so obdurate and dead to the claims of gratitude, that would not thankfully acknowledge such priceless benefits? Who so stolid and selfish that would not give his voice to swell the hallelujahs of a nation's jubilee, when the chains of servitude had been torn from his limbs? What effect is achieved by using a series of questions in this speech? A.It conveys a sense of wonderment about the tenets of the Declaration of Independence. B.It gets the audience to start thinking about whether the Declaration of Independence was beneficial for the slaves. C.It makes the audience begin to resent the policies and practices of the US government. D.It creates a parallel structure intended to urge the audience to protest against the Declaration of Independence

B.

It gets the audience to start thinking about whether the Declaration of Independence was beneficial for the slaves,

When interpreting poetry, _____ reveal(s) explicit meaning and _____ reveal(s) implied meaning. -imagery / direct statements -proven fact / ambiguous statements -direct statements / imagery -ambiguous statements / proven facts

Explicit meaning means meaning that originates only from the meaning of the phrase and not other contextual features and it also has the connotations of being concrete and realistic. On the other hand, implied meaning makes us think of similes and other non-pragmatic factors. The only pair that suits the above descriptions is: direct statements / imagery. This question is along the dilemma of imagery and direct statements; the other 2 choices have other impacts on literary forms.

Read the sentence below and answer the following question: BUT HE ANSWERED NOT A WORD; like the last column of some ruined temple, he remained standing mute and solitary in the middle of the otherwise deserted room. —Herman Melville, "Bartleby the Scrivener" In the bolded section, how does the addition of "not a word" change the impact of this introductory clause? It emphasizes the lack of response: no answer was given at all. It emphasizes the reference to solitary later in the sentence: "standing mute and solitary." It suggests the narrator needed something: even a non-verbal response would have worked. It suggests the feeling of isolation the narrator feels: the room is deserted.

This comes from the short story “Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street” written by Herman Melville. It is the story of a lawyer who employs a very strange man , Bartleby, as a scrivener. He relates how he would ask Bartleby to do some work but he would just refuse to do it, or stand by the window and say nothing.

Question: In the bolded section, how does the addition of "not a word" change the impact of this introductory clause?

Answer: A.  It emphasizes the lack of response: no answer was given at all.

The sentence provided may contain a grammar or usage error. Read the sentence, and then identify its error, if there is one, by selecting the appropriate answer choice. If there is no error in the sentence, choose no error. 1. When Marilene works quick at a project, she often makes careless mistakes. a. careless mistakes b. she often makes c. When Marilene d. no error e. quick Read the sentence, and then identify its error by selecting the appropriate answer choice. 2. It can be a real challenge to make a lunch that is both healthy and tasty. a. real challenge b. No error c. that is d. to make e. can be

The mistake in the first sentence provided is the adjective quick. The correct word in that place of the sentence should be quickly, which is an adverb, due to the fact that adverbs modify verbs, and adjectives (quick) modify nouns. In this case, quickly refers to the action of the sentence of working quickly. So, that quickly modifies the verb "work."

In the second sentence there is no mistake. Every single type of word is well placed to convey the meaning.

Read each question carefully and brainstorm ideas before you begin. Use complete sentences and support your answers with evidence from the text. 1. How are Yun Ok's character traits—demonstrated in her quest to obtain the tiger's whisker—going to help her accomplish her goal of reconnecting with her husband? 2. Is Yun Ok afraid at any point in the story? Why or why not? 3. At the end of the story, do you consider Yun Ok successful? Why or why not? Cite specific details from the story to support your conclusion. DONT ANSWER I DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yun Ok eventually goes far enough in the cave and sees the tigers eyes one night. She sets down the meat as usual and leaves. She keeps getting closer and closer. Then one night the tiger comes to her and takes the meat. The tiger becomes like a house pet to Yun Ok and this continues for a couple more months.
Yun Ok one night tells the tiger she is going to clip one of the whiskers. She gets the whisker and takes it to Sage. Sage then throws the whisker in the fire. He then asks Yun Ok how she got the whisker. She tells him and he asks what is more of a savage beast, the tiger or man?
Yun Ok says that the tiger is harder to train. Sage then says that the potion is in your heart with love, kindness, patience, and effort. Yun Ok was still mad at first because she had "wasted" all of that time to learn a simple lesson.
Yun Ok's husband returned home from the war and is not the same. He is very quite and is not happy or affectionate anymore, just not the same.
Yun Ok went to the hermit, sage, for advice or a potion she could get to make her husband better. Sage said to get a tigers whisker and then he will make her a potion to help with her husband.

Which paragraphs from The Autobiography of Charles Darwin most effectively develop Darwin’s claim that the voyage of the “Beagle” was the most important event in his life? My apologies, I just cannot think this morning, my dudes. Here's the text if y'all need it: The voyage of the "Beagle" has been by far the most important event in my life, and has determined my whole career; yet it depended on so small a circumstance as my uncle offering to drive me thirty miles to Shrewsbury, which few uncles would have done, and on such a trifle as the shape of my nose. I have always felt that I owe to the voyage the first real training or education of my mind; I was led to attend closely to several branches of natural history, and thus my powers of observation were improved, though they were always fairly developed. The investigation of the geology of all the places visited was far more important, as reasoning here comes into play. On first examining a new district nothing can appear more hopeless than the chaos of rocks; but by recording the stratification and nature of the rocks and fossils at many points, always reasoning and predicting what will be found elsewhere, light soon begins to dawn on the district, and the structure of the whole becomes more or less intelligible. I had brought with me the first volume of Lyell's 'Principles of Geology,' which I studied attentively; and the book was of the highest service to me in many ways. The very first place which I examined, namely St. Jago in the Cape de Verde islands, showed me clearly the wonderful superiority of Lyell's manner of treating geology, compared with that of any other author, whose works I had with me or ever afterwards read. Another of my occupations was collecting animals of all classes, briefly describing and roughly dissecting many of the marine ones; but from not being able to draw, and from not having sufficient anatomical knowledge, a great pile of MS. which I made during the voyage has proved almost useless. I thus lost much time, with the exception of that spent in acquiring some knowledge of the Crustaceans, as this was of service when in after years I undertook a monograph of the Cirripedia. During some part of the day I wrote my Journal, and took much pains in describing carefully and vividly all that I had seen; and this was good practice. My Journal served also, in part, as letters to my home, and portions were sent to England whenever there was an opportunity. The above various special studies were, however, of no importance compared with the habit of energetic industry and of concentrated attention to whatever I was engaged in, which I then acquired. Everything about which I thought or read was made to bear directly on what I had seen or was likely to see; and this habit of mind was continued during the five years of the voyage. I feel sure that it was this training which has enabled me to do whatever I have done in science. Looking backwards, I can now perceive how my love for science gradually preponderated over every other taste. During the first two years my old passion for shooting survived in nearly full force, and I shot myself all the birds and animals for my collection; but gradually I gave up my gun more and more, and finally altogether, to my servant, as shooting interfered with my work, more especially with making out the geological structure of a country. I discovered, though unconsciously and insensibly, that the pleasure of observing and reasoning was a much higher one than that of skill and sport. That my mind became developed through my pursuits during the voyage is rendered probable by a remark made by my father, who was the most acute observer whom I ever saw, of a skeptical disposition, and far from being a believer in phrenology; for on first seeing me after the voyage, he turned round to my sisters, and exclaimed, "Why, the shape of his head is quite altered."

I think it is the first paragraph of the excerpt
