The sentence which properly combines these two sentences through the use of an appositive is C. The head chief, an expert in Chinese cuisine, took me on a tour of the kitchen.
The appositive here is an expert in Chinese cuisine, and appositives are often separated from the rest of the sentence using commas.

Jellyfish use their tentacles to sting. Most are harmless to humans but stings from some species can kill people. An example is a box jellyfish. A species of box jellyfish can produce extremely potent venom. They are also cnidarian invertebrates. They are distinguished by their cube-shaped medusae.

There are many species of jellyfish. Here are some from the Gulf of Mexico. A Moon Jellyfish, having a 4 petal shaped like reproductive organs being able to see through their bell. Read this excerpt from “Ain’t I a Woman?” by Sojourner Truth. In which sentences does she make an emotional appeal to the audience by talking about her personal hardships? Well, children, where there is so much racket there must be something out of kilter. I think that 'twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon. But what's all this here talking about? That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain't I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man - when I could get it - and bear the lash as well! And ain't I a woman? I have borne thirteen children, and seen most all sold off to slavery, and when I cried out with my mother's grief, none but Jesus heard me! And ain't I a woman? Then they talk about this thing in the head; what's this they call it? [member of audience whispers, "intellect"] That's it, honey. What's that got to do with women's rights or negroes' rights? If my cup won't hold but a pint, and yours holds a quart, wouldn't you be mean not to let me have my little half measure full?

IN the 2ND paragraph which mostly contains the personal hardships the speaker has in her life as a Negro woman. Specifically, the sentence's where in she talks about no one helping her into carriages, ploughed and gathered in the farm, eat and work as much as a man, and being sold off to slavery best describe the emotional it shows that she wanted to convey

PARIS: This is that banish'd haughty Montague, That murder'd my love's cousin, with which grief, It is supposed, the fair creature died; And here is come to do some villanous shame To the dead bodies: I will apprehend him. (Comes forward) Stop thy unhallow'd toil, vile Montague! Can vengeance be pursued further than death? Condemned villain, I do apprehend thee: Obey, and go with me; for thou must die. ROMEO: I must indeed; and therefore came I hither. Good gentle youth, tempt not a desperate man; Fly hence, and leave me: think upon these gone; Let them affright thee. I beseech thee, youth, Put not another sin upon my head, By urging me to fury: O, be gone! By heaven, I love thee better than myself; For I come hither arm'd against myself: Stay not, be gone; live, and hereafter say, A madman's mercy bade thee run away. PARIS: I do defy thy conjurations, And apprehend thee for a felon here. Which type of external conflict is reflected in this excerpt from act V of Romeo and Juliet? A. person versus society B. person versus the unknown C. person versus nature D. person versus person

Answer: D. Person versus person.

Explanation: in literature, a conflict is a struggle between opposite forces, usually between a character (the main character or a very important one) and himself (internal conflict), society or another character (external conflict). In the given lines from "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, we can see an example of a person vs person in literature, a conflict, between Paris and Romeo, because they are both in love with Juliet.

Read the sentence below and answer the following question: BUT HE ANSWERED NOT A WORD; like the last column of some ruined temple, he remained standing mute and solitary in the middle of the otherwise deserted room. —Herman Melville, "Bartleby the Scrivener" In the bolded section, how does the addition of "not a word" change the impact of this introductory clause? It emphasizes the lack of response: no answer was given at all. It emphasizes the reference to solitary later in the sentence: "standing mute and solitary." It suggests the narrator needed something: even a non-verbal response would have worked. It suggests the feeling of isolation the narrator feels: the room is deserted.

This comes from the short story “Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street” written by Herman Melville. It is the story of a lawyer who employs a very strange man , Bartleby, as a scrivener. He relates how he would ask Bartleby to do some work but he would just refuse to do it, or stand by the window and say nothing.

Question: In the bolded section, how does the addition of "not a word" change the impact of this introductory clause?

Answer: A.  It emphasizes the lack of response: no answer was given at all.

The sentence provided may contain a grammar or usage error. Read the sentence, and then identify its error, if there is one, by selecting the appropriate answer choice. If there is no error in the sentence, choose no error. 1. When Marilene works quick at a project, she often makes careless mistakes. a. careless mistakes b. she often makes c. When Marilene d. no error e. quick Read the sentence, and then identify its error by selecting the appropriate answer choice. 2. It can be a real challenge to make a lunch that is both healthy and tasty. a. real challenge b. No error c. that is d. to make e. can be

The mistake in the first sentence provided is the adjective quick. The correct word in that place of the sentence should be quickly, which is an adverb, due to the fact that adverbs modify verbs, and adjectives (quick) modify nouns. In this case, quickly refers to the action of the sentence of working quickly. So, that quickly modifies the verb "work."

In the second sentence there is no mistake. Every single type of word is well placed to convey the meaning.

Read each question carefully and brainstorm ideas before you begin. Use complete sentences and support your answers with evidence from the text. 1. How are Yun Ok's character traits—demonstrated in her quest to obtain the tiger's whisker—going to help her accomplish her goal of reconnecting with her husband? 2. Is Yun Ok afraid at any point in the story? Why or why not? 3. At the end of the story, do you consider Yun Ok successful? Why or why not? Cite specific details from the story to support your conclusion. DONT ANSWER I DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yun Ok eventually goes far enough in the cave and sees the tigers eyes one night. She sets down the meat as usual and leaves. She keeps getting closer and closer. Then one night the tiger comes to her and takes the meat. The tiger becomes like a house pet to Yun Ok and this continues for a couple more months.
Yun Ok one night tells the tiger she is going to clip one of the whiskers. She gets the whisker and takes it to Sage. Sage then throws the whisker in the fire. He then asks Yun Ok how she got the whisker. She tells him and he asks what is more of a savage beast, the tiger or man?
Yun Ok says that the tiger is harder to train. Sage then says that the potion is in your heart with love, kindness, patience, and effort. Yun Ok was still mad at first because she had "wasted" all of that time to learn a simple lesson.
Yun Ok's husband returned home from the war and is not the same. He is very quite and is not happy or affectionate anymore, just not the same.
Yun Ok went to the hermit, sage, for advice or a potion she could get to make her husband better. Sage said to get a tigers whisker and then he will make her a potion to help with her husband.

Which sentence is the hook in this introductory paragraph

The best way to answer this question is to read the paragraph out loud--try to get an understanding for the author's tone. the first sentence is by fsr the most grabbing. the second and third sentences are giving some plain information (who qualifies as baby boomers or millenials). the fourth sentence is merely a lead-in for the next paragraph.

the first sentence has an affect; the other three don't have so much of one. "for the first time in decades" is something that interests you, because it signifies a big change, then the use of the dash before "the millenials" creates a dramatic pause. the emphasis is another thing that usually appears in a hook.

Read the passage. My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun, Coral is far more red than her lips’ red; If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun; If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. What is the main idea of the first quatrain of Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare? (A) The speaker thinks his love is far superior to the beauty of nature. (B) The speaker is comparing his love to others. (C) The speaker describes his love as an earthy being. (D) The speaker considers his love less attractive than objects in nature.

The fourth alternative is correct (D).

Several authors make comparisons between the loved one and the colors and beauties of nature. However, this is only a form of romanticism. Shakespeare demonstrates the contrary, for him, the beauty of nature is incomparable. It is only your perception, in fact they are two things that are not exactly comparable. However, this does not suggest that the love he feels is not intense and true, he just does not embrace traditional romanticism.
